Rural Youth is young people - male and female - from all walks of life who are between the ages of 15 and 30 years. Not all members live or work on farms, in many instances the only thing members have in common is that they are young people interested in developing themselves and others.
THE MEMBER
That’s YOU!! Your are the base of the whole organisation. Without you the whole organisation would not exist. Over 350 members in Tasmania are just waiting to get to know YOU.
You may be shy or outgoing; a leader or a follower; a farmer or mechanic, shop assistant or teacher; - whatever you are, there is a place for you in Rural Youth.
THE CLUB
Each member joins a club by paying a membership fee, set annually.
Clubs are self-governing. They elect their own office bearers, manage their own affairs and choose their own programs of activities. Each Club is different. It may be formal or informal, it may be as few as eight members or as many as fifty.
Clubs work because people enjoy things with others, and there are many things that can only be done as a group.
THE REGION
A region consists of clubs located in that particular area of the State. The Region Committee is made up of three delegates from each club in the region. There are three regions in our State Organisation – Southern, Northern and North-West; whose role includes coordinating competitions and activities between clubs, liaison between clubs and State, support existing clubs and forming new clubs.
RURAL YOUTH COUNCIL
A committee comprising five representatives from each region and a State Executive Committee. This committee is a coordinating body which ensures the smooth running of the Organisation and state functions.
Individual members of this committee are responsible for different tasks or portfolios:
State President, Immediate Past President, Senior Vice-President, Junior Vice-President, Finance Director, ARY Vice President, Merchandise Director, Study Tour Director, Newsletter editor, Competitions Director, Agriculture Director, Young Farmer Director, Promotions Director, Sponsorship & Grants Director, Membership & Clubs Director, Social Director, Web Site Editor.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting or State Conference is held each year in March, with all clubs and Rural Youth Council represented. It provides a forum for discussion on matters concerning Rural Youth. It also provides an opportunity to review the previous year and set the following year’s State Program. Every member is welcome to attend.
The meeting is held over a weekend, and includes ample opportunity for socialising as well as dealing with business.
