Study Tours

Rural Youth offer a range of study tours to members each year and selections are held in July. Any financial member interested in going for an exchange can apply. Exchanges on offer include a variety of international destinations, a berth on the Young Endeavour, a week at the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp or a self-nominated destination or training course (subject to approval) each year.

For all exchanges, both national and international, airfares are paid for by Rural Youth sponsors and we help to arrange your travel plans. You are hosted by members of an associated organisation, which means most of your accommodation, transfers and meals are at no cost to you. You will experience real life in another country, not just the tourist hot spots!

You are responsible for organising your own passport and visa, Travel Insurance is available through Rural Youth or you can source your own. You will need to take along your own spending money and a desire to have a whole load of fun and make some fabulous new mates.

So, how do I win a study tour?

Ever wanted to travel the world? A Rural Youth Study Tour may be for you. The Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania offers study tours to international destinations or subject to approval, a self-nominated activity such as a Jillaroo/Jackaroo Course or trip to an interstate Field Days.

If you are interested in being selected for a study tour, information will be available on social media and in out Newsletter prior to selections. This information will tell you which countries are available, where the selections will take place and who to contact if you are interested.

At the selections you will be required to do the following.

  • Complete a general knowledge quiz
  • Go on an organised tour and write a report
  • Do a demonstration
  • Be interviewed by the judging panel

Points are awarded for each section and added at the end.

There is no disadvantage if you have applied and missed out before. In fact, it is often a good idea to have a go when you're not quite ready - it'll give you the advantage for when you are ready!

Only current Rural Youth members can apply. You need to be 30 or under in the year you are due to take your exchange.
Young Endeavour participants must be between the ages of 16-23 yrs old on the day of departure of their chosen voyage.

Apply in writing

Applications open in July/August each year. Keep an eye out for the information and application form on our website. You will be required to complete the application and send it in to head office by the due date.

Attend the Selection Day

You will be required to attend a selection day, which will start with an organised tour on which you will need to write a report. You will be interviewed by the judging panel and you will need to perform a demonstration of your choice (ie roll a swag, edit a photo or ice a cake). Then come to the Rural Youth AGM that night where winners will be announced. Come along and have a go, you never know where you might end up!
